Such an odd film for Lang to make at such a particular point in his career, but it's compelling for the same reason because this is just not really the type of film you'd expect from him. It's the same story as the musical Carousel which I'm already familiar and have my problems with, and I think this version is a bit less offensive in terms of the apologia of domestic violence, but it still has that same fucking infuriating line. Really have to revisit Carousel soon to figure out why I find that one worse compared to this in that aspect... Romanticism, probably. Would like to have a proper restoration of this though. Cool to see such a young Charles Boyer though.
