I have a few issues with The Last Bus.
The first one being just how miserable it is. I knew by the synopsis that it wouldn’t be entirely happy and upbeat as it mentions he’s on this trip because his wife has just died. However, not only are we greeted to a flashback of his baby daughter dying, in the present he is mugged, pushed over more than once, kicked off a bus in the middle of nowhere while being visibly injured, and spends a lot of the movie coughing up blood.
Another issue, for me, is that you don’t really get a sense of where he is or how much he has travelled. There is occasionally a shot of him looking at the map but it doesn’t work to show just how far he has gone. He’s supposedly going 838 miles but you don’t feel that at all.
I think I was just expecting a different movie and was disappointed at what I actually got. I wanted a fun, exciting adventure with a 90 year old man and instead got racist drunks and misery.
