I don't think 90 minutes is enough to tell the story this tries to tell. It's an honest and heartfelt movie, but it needed to do so much more. I fucking love the twist and had they not chickened out and really explored it, this could be an all time classic. It's too sanitized and afraid to go all the way. It still does a lot in its short time and the acting is pretty great, even from the child actors. As a former substitute teacher, I couldn't help but note the many, many times where he could have been fired and things I would have never gotten away with, but I get it; it's a movie.
