A sobering reminder of just how Western-centric the North American news cycle is, and just how much we take our right to vote in free and fair elections for granted.
I know embarrassingly little about African politics and only vaguely remember reading about the 2017 Kenyan election at the time. The violence and corruption that erupted while the political elite schmoozed in their ivory towers is absolutely gut wrenching and I am in awe of all the activists like Boniface trying to nurture democracy in the face of seemingly insurmountable adversity.
