it's been six or seven years since i read this so my memory of the is super foggy, but i remember loving it so much. plus i've been wanting to watch it for years so i'm so glad it's now streaming in the uk!
can't compare it to the book too much personally but on a separate note i really enjoyed it. da'vine joy randolph was so great as aunt pooh (when isn't she brilliant?) and i genuinely thought jamila c gray was great as bri! the dynamic between bri, malik and sonny was so sweet and i loved their little friend group and how supportive they were of her. and i'm so glad that the sonny/milez relationship was kept in too (though in a smaller capacity than i'd have liked) since it's the kind of thing that can get lost when adapting from book to film.
definitely hard to strike a balance between the injustice's bri and her family/friends are facing vs her career, but i still enjoyed it a lot. also nice to see titus makin jr as her brother, he and sanaa lathan were brilliant and their overall dynamic was really lovely and there was a lot of great chemistry there. watching bri/trey tease each other genuinely felt very true to most sibling dynamics!
