*Watched at FANTASPOA 2022
A surreal and painful "children's fairy tale" story involving child labor, patriarchy, capitalism, all of that good shit. I could analyse it in a few ways that are just roundabout ways of saying "this says a lot about society".
The ending is very satisfying for a movie that really doesn't promise a real ending at all. The director was incredibly chill during Q&A, explaining the deep research he made on cults and saying that the focus of the movie is the conflict and the characters, rather than explaining everything that is presented to the audience.
