Battle of the cosmos! Saint Seiya has to be one of the more punishing anime with respect to how badly our protagonists are beat down before they're able to rise up and defeat the bad guy. The thing that Saint Seiya does so well is manage the way the tempo of the battles sway. The dosing of who has the upper hand is always accompanied by stellar powers and grand visualizations. The impact and excitement of the fights become increased because the team of Athena's knights are all kids. I always contrast this with dbz because I feel like it's such a notable and strong precursor. There's something different about seeing Seiya, who always looks pretty scrawny, get beat to a bloody pulp and then dawn his upgraded gold armour. The scale of the fights is always massive. I'm always impressed with how grand the battles are. The story and meat on the bones is pretty lackluster, but the classic Saint Seiya formula is in place meaning it's still quite fun and exciting.
