remember watching this when I was very young but quite literally didn’t remember anything other than the beautiful songs that are still being played today, so for me it was basically a first watch.
what a beautiful film well ahead of its time. every single character is so well fleshed out and never in rush to give us more screen time than needed for each one. the film is all about tabu & aishwarya’s family and their journey to independence.
it’s got all the love, drama and emotions that we are just missing in family dramas today in indian cinema. the entire cast is just excellent with everyone having their moments to shine.
mammuka is fantastic as major bala, ajith is so charming & relatable as manohar but obviously the show stealers are aishwarya and tabu, especially tabu. aishwarya will always be one of the most gorgeous women to ever grace this earth and she’s so perfect in this film as meenakshi who is this hopeless romantic yet head strong woman. for me, tabu was the heart & soul of the film. just wanted to give her a massive hug the entire film. her acting was so great and anytime she wanted to breakdown but couldn’t just hit so hard and the moment she would break down you feel like tearing up for her. she’s such a pure soul in this film.
ravi k chandran’s visuals are of course gorgeous and rahman’s score is a classic so what else can be said.
such a wholesome and heartwarming film in every way. really need us to go back to making sweet films like this again.
