Ghost Lab has no fucking idea what it wants to be; it's like six different movies blended into a chunky mess. In the beginning, it struggles between goofy Asian comedy, serious Asian drama, and vaguely paranormal thriller. It soon transitions into more of a straight drama, and then a thriller, and then a drama, and then a horror for a few minutes, and then a drama again. Everything about this film feels abrupt and disjointed, from the tone, to the score (which can go from jovial carnival sounds to deeply serious dramatic score in half a second), to the camera quality (maybe they could only get two good cameras and the rest had to be shot on a Motorola Razor). I think the acting was fine and although the existence of some of the sets made no sense, they all looked sufficiently creepy. The characters make zero sense and there wasn't a single time where I was fully on board with the movie. It's over-dramatic, terribly paced (it just kept going and going and it felt like it was twice as long as it was), dumb, and often very boring. There is probably a decent movie in there somewhere, but what we got was a total disaster that ends way off base.
