I can’t believe how much I’ve just enjoyed this film. An incredibly simplistic fantasy adventure that is one of the most atmospheric films I’ve ever seen. All of the characters are designed really well, even down to the voice acting which perfectly adds to the charm. The stop-motion animation is stunning and some of the best ever.
This is only an hour long and it’s paced perfectly, making it a great watch for all ages - I know I would have loved this as a child. It’s like a children’s version of Terry Gilliam’s Baron Munchausen, but a lot more wholesome.
I’m already thinking about when I will re-watch this and I think I’ll get to it in the next month or two. This really could be one of my all time favourite films it was that good. Easily the best British, stop-motion animation, fantasy adventure film based on Eastern European folklore that was co-produced with an American company and released in 1990 of all time.
