KCFF 2021 Film 6/14
The story of Steven Truscott is probably one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in Canadian history. The story of Marlene Truscott is also super interesting. It's the story of one woman who tirelessly works to get her husband exonerated.
The film Marlene is a different story altogether. It turns a story that could have made a great film into a bit of a generic love story. There are definitely elements of a good movie, but between the bad, distracting ageing makeup and the generic screenplay, Marlene doesn't ever really land.
While I understand that this is supposed to be more about Marlene's story, the real travesty is that we never see the people responsible questioned or held accountable.
