Filmed from inside two of the most active therapeutic feeding centers in Yemen, HUNGER WARD documents two female health care workers fighting to thwart the spread of starvation against the backdrop of a forgotten war. The film provides an unflinching portrait of Dr. Aida Alsadeeq and Nurse Mekkia Mahdi as they try to save the lives of hunger-stricken children within a population on the brink of famine.

Horrifying scenes from Yemen, but almost equally shocking filming. Let these families grieve without a camera in their faces.

Clocking in at only 40 minutes I still had to take a couple of breaks to make it through. Heartbreaking to see how children who’s only had a handful of years in this world are the ones suffering from war caused but something or someone who’s so incredibly far away from them.

Exploitative trauma porn at its finest. Prolonged shots of a dead infant and a wailing grandmother’s grief is not brave documentarian filmmaking, it’s exhibitionist and gross. I guess that means it’s probably going to win tomorrow.

“What they all have in common is malnutrition, and heartbreak” . . Probably the most impactful of the shorts I’ve seen.

Hands down the hardest thing I have ever watched. I will never forget what I have seen. But I don't think it necessarily needed to be that way.
