Finishing off my October celebration of all things Chainsaw with this informative talking head doco detailing primarily the making of the first film and some smaller detail on the sequels.
Most of the cast and crew are interviewed for the project including director Tobe Hooper and star Marilyn Burns. We get same amazing insight into the fucking crazy shooting conditions including the dinner scene which took 27 hours, was filmed in stiffling heat on a set rank with body odour and rotting meat. No wonder the scene is so effective, everyone in it had probably has their own grip on sanity before the it finally wrapped.
There is some bitterness, particularly from Gunnar Hansen and set designer Robert Burns about the unseen profits as a result of a deal hatched with Mafia backed distribution unit Bryanston. Although it's not like big Hollywood studio accountancy is any more generous with their profit distribution...but you (probably) won't end up with concrete boots if you challenge Cannon or New Line as opposed to Lou 'Butchie' Peraino.
Annnd that concludes my Chainsaw-a-thon. I wasn't able to find a copy of Texas Chainsaw 3D anywhere (not even a dodgy rip on YouTube) and I couldn't figure out how to access iTunes on my work iPhone - so Leatherface (2017) will need to wait also.
