“you know why we have to do this.”
the best part about this movie is my girl libe barer and she’s not even in this long enough to matter. the movie gives you no reason to care about the characters, and although august maturo puts on a decent performance as lucas, it just isn’t enough. the design for the witch or entity or whatever it was supposed to be is just really really bad. like the lighting doesn’t do it any favors and the mask is just horrendously, laughably, terrible. i wasn’t scared of it or intrigued at all. i think this movie has a really interesting concept, and i feel like had it been executed better it would’ve been really strong. the idea of coping with trauma in dangerous and violent manners isn’t exactly a new concept, and it brings a lot to the conversation about the ways in which we cope and the vices we pick up, but it never delivers on what it promises. it genuinely feels like the writer had a plan to address grief, child abuse, and bullying, and then decided he could just lightly touch on the subjects without any actual depth to them. just a big misstep and a lot of wasted potential. also, tom has gotta be in the running for the worst bog brother in the world. like, i get it, you’re not dealing with your trauma in a healthy way, but the dude is a literal piece of crap and is so unaware of everything happening around him. pls don’t make my mistake and watch this.
