Trascendental yearning, it’s a comforting thought.
I liked this film, however it would’ve benefited for a bit of a longer runtime, simply because some scenes could’ve been explored just a little longer. So many plot lines just appeared and ceased to exist.
Pavel included quite interesting frames here, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The film dragged a little for a 80 minute runtime, but it wasn’t bad.
Ethan is great at showing his terrible French and his great American self. I will always believe he’s a sad, pathetic writer and womanizer. He delivers some quite funny moments, however I feel like the film did not explore who he really was.
Frankly, Kristin and Joanna stole the film for me. Both offer mysterious and exciting women for entirely different reasons. I’ll admit I did not expect Margit’s backstory, at all.
Juliet also delivers quite a lovely performance as Chloé and her chemistry with Ethan was great. And would’ve loved to see more of Delphine. The main plot felt too rushed in my opinion.
The score was fine, the styling was cut and clean, would’ve loved to have them explore Margit’s apartment more. The set design was a tad confusing at times with the café tho.
Overall, an interesting piece of film. I will read the novel and see if I can gather more on the story. But as a film, it really asks you to think with all the pieces you get without the full image.
