Privileged to have Matt Saville as a teacher. Solid effort for a debut feature film. I can definitely see the potential in this film. Very well shot with some good character writing seen with Ruth. I also really loved some of the scenes where we got to see Ruth and Sam’s relationship flourish, was real heartwarming. The ending probably the most emotional part, really tied everything together.
I felt the character writing for Sam just wasn’t quite there. The emotional beats were just way too dramatic. One moment Sam was pissed, next moment he was tryna self delete, and then he was all goody goody, and this was all in the span of like 5mins. And his anger and disrespect towards Ruth just felt waaaayyyy too unwarranted, might be because there wasn’t much set up of her beforehand and also because his reactions didn’t feel relatable. Because the emotional beats didn’t land very well that also made the film feel a bit slow.
Anyway, it’s still a very touching film where Matt remembers his grandmother. Very wholesome start to his career. (Now please give me good grades because I was nice🙏🏽)
