Felt like an apt pairing to my earlier Rosetta watch. Here we find another French-language title diving into working class economic anxieties though Gravel's characters and filming are much more reserved in comparison. There is still shaky shots, an omnipresent camera zooming into Calamy's face, but now everything is a bit sleeker in comparison. Calamy plays a single mother juggling her job as the head maid of a 5 star hotel, a prospective interview with a market research firm to get a higher salary and utilize her Master's in economics, ensuring someone is able to take her children to and from school (her current go to is becoming more annoyed by Calamy's tardiness and her children's hyperactivity), her ex-husband who seemingly refuses to answer her calls to take the children and pay their alimony, and throughout all this an ever worsening economic crisis that has resulted in almost every transportation service to and from Paris going on strike. It's a perfect cauldron to leave you breathless as she races through her day, desperately trying to make a better life for herself and her family. A seemingly low stakes but no less thrilling experience capped by a superb lead performance.
