i can’t believe someone uploaded this on youtube. i used to watch this movie every week and truly thought it was a world wide classic. never in my life have i met another person who has seen this. there will never be another movie like it. when i die, bury me with a copy of this dvd. when i give birth, put the dvd on my hospital room tv. why was this movie made, i do not know. but it has changed my life. people ask me why im not going into film if im a film student. to them i say bc i would want to be the best and nothing i ever create will come close to the philly phanatic goes hollywood (2006). become a film teacher you may say. but people would disagree with my decision to assign this film for every assignment. lighting, sound, mise-en-scéne… this film does it best.
corinne, i thought you were a yankees fan, you may say. you would be correct. i don’t like this movie bc im a philly fan. i like it because i am a fan of great cinema. one can not truly be a fan of cinema and not praise this film. why is it not in my top 4? boy do you all ask a lot of questions, but fear not, i will answer. the truth is because i like to elaborate on why i like my top 4. and while you think im elaborating right now, i have not scratched the surface of the beauty encapsulated in this film.
pablo i didn’t mean for this to be how u find out our first dance will be to the philly cheesesteak song but it will be. ben franklin plays the guitar while a man sings about sautéed onions. nothing compares. pablo thinks he gave me my love of boxing but he didn’t know the phanatic started it when he reenacted rocky in this movie. in fact, when i first saw rocky i thought he was reenacting the phanatic. i will make sure my children feel the same.
when i finally went to hollywood at age 13, i went right up the steven spielberg’s star. you may assume that’s because he was one of the greatest directors of all time. but trying was because it’s the first thing the phanatic went to. you may think the movie ends after he returns to philly. that could not be more wrong. and that’s the thing with this movie. it takes you places you’d never expect. teaches you things you never knew. it’s powerful soundtrack and panning shots leave you as a changed individual.
to those of you who read this whole thing and wished there was more, fear not, i will add to this review in the future. i currently am speechless. often when you don’t see something for a while and remember it as perfect it is just bc you built it up in your head. but this remains perfection. god bless america for this wonderful sport that led to the creation of this film.
