I was trying to find a film from Sierra Leone, but all I could find were boring documentaries produced by Western filmmakers. While these documentaries were undoubtedly informative, they weren’t what I was looking for. I wanted to see how Sierra Leoneans depict themselves through their own storytelling. So, I turned to YouTube and discovered this film!
Although it’s clearly amateurish, it has an earnest and charming quality. It’s evident that the film was made primarily for a local audience, aiming to tell a semi-fantastical story set in the "past."
The low-budget effects, acting, and costumes give it a wonderfully campy vibe. And I have to mention the catchy song that plays every four minutes, no matter whether the scene is happy or sad—it’s oddly delightful.
That said, be aware that the description of the film is somewhat misleading. If it was intended to be a horror movie, it falls short of the mark.
