To me this shouldn't have been classified as a detective film only but also as a social drama. So my expectations were very different compared to what the film is in itself. And yes i ended up a bit disappointed. But despite that, i think it's a well made film.
What strucked me the most were the visuals and the shots, because visually this is a stunning film. I absolutly adored the work with the lighting especially during scenes that took place in the night. There's a recurring use of yellow lights which can remind of the fire's colour, the killer uses fire to burn the cars of his victims. Probably to represent his omniprecence even though we never truly see him on screen.
However this whole storyline is clearly not explored in depth while still being an important one. It doesn't seem to entirely impact the main characters which felt odd during my viewing. On top of that this plot didn't get a satisfying or conclusive ending.
It seems to me that this film is also very contemplative at times, wants to talk about human relationships in general and makes some social commentary. But it's still feels surface level, i wanted more. The psychology of the characters lacks a proper development to feel coherent and understandable. I got the impression that they were not very impacted by all of the things that were happening to them. However the characters are definitely elevated by the acting of the two leads.
So at the end of the day this film is to me disjointed. The story seems to be torn between a crime film and a drama. I won't say it is impossible for a film to be both, it can be but only if the different elements of the story are cohesive which in this case is not really.
Pacing wise, the film was really slow at the beguinning and to be honest, the story was a bit confusing but after a while, the pacing stays consistent for the most part.
