Almost 19-year-old Marius feels himself in a rut in Marseille, his life planned for him by his cafe'-owning father, and he longs for the sea. The night before he is to leave on a 5-year voyage, Fanny, a girl he grew up with, reveals that she is in love with him, and he discovers that he is in love with her. He must choose between an exciting life at sea, and a boring life with the woman he loves. And Fanny must choose between keeping the man she loves, and letting him live the life he seems to want.

Its really pretty with some of gorgeous cast members and a beautiful setting. The setup of the story is great and feels interesting and exciting but at some point it starts to feel a little flat. I think it runs a little long and the ending takes a bit of a weird turn but I enjoyed it none the less.

I like Leslie Caron and Charles Boyer quite a bit here, the rest of the cast what ever. The movie looks great but at times jobs too much around storywise,m. The movie does seem to be having a bit of fun to start but as the movie goes the pacing slows as does my interest.
