I've been thinking a lot about a Kassovitz interview I read recently where he said, to paraphrase, that it's easy to make black and white look beautiful – that, if you saw
La Haine in colour, the film is ugly. In colour, you would not like
La Haine.
I can't deny that's true.
Following is probably my favourite Nolan for that reason.
I bring this up only because seeing that the next two installments are in colour already have me feeling... Uncertain about them. And isn't that stupid?
The Most Terrible Time In My Life was brilliant! One of the best films I've watched this year, if not ever in my whole life! One of those films I will be referring back to time and again. It was heartfelt, witty, and quickpaced – all masterfully so.
But... I wonder if I would have liked it this much if it was in colour? Not that it matters, since it's not in colour anyway!!
