Aimless, repetitive, and incredibly boring, this one, ironically, could have used a better director. The way this is set up is like she's got twenty directors, each in a different room at a hotel and she just gives them an open prompt, sits there for three minutes, then runs down the hall to another director in another room, listens for three minutes, and repeated, randomly returning and checking "Are they still on about whatever tangent they spun up last time? Yep. Alright, next room". There is no flow to any of this. It seemed like there was an obvious set-up when we started that we'd introduce a "great director" and have all these other directors comment on them and interview the director, maybe give a little history, but this quickly veers off course and starts to be a random assortment of clips with no direction. There isn't a link from clip to clip, so no momentum is ever built and it makes it real hard to follow. The purpose of a doc (for me at least) is always to learn and if you were taking notes on this one, it would look like you read the first page of chapter one, then the first page of chapter two, all the first chapters through the end of the text book, and then went back for all the chapter 2's and then 3's and so forth. It's a jumbled mess.
