I’m sorry but you can’t have Patrick Kilpatrick play a dad. He’s a gurning, demon-voiced killing machine who ran in the CA recall election this year. It’s like when Wings Hauser is supposed to be “just a guy” like yeah no fucking way. Kilpatrick adds menace to many scenes where it absolutely should not be there and that makes this kid horror flick have a weird tone. The Home Alone hijinks and goofy hick humor are in stark contrast to the harrowing domestic curse stuff and the gnarly monster.

There’s some dicey Native American stuff and it’s both more than I expected but still thinned out too much. The monster stuff is effective. It’s got an endearing vibe. The editing suggests there was maybe a scramble to put this thing together and have it hang together. There’s a slight eau de Full Moon to the proceedings I kinda dig.
