Sadly, Black Emanuelle ditches the first film’s leading actress, jet setting, exoticism, eroticism, and sensuality in favor of a blaxploitation psychological drama with an incredibly odd starting hook. It initially seems like the exploitation part of sexploitation would be a lot stronger with a montage of the new Emanuelle, in her first and only acting role, being tortured, but that only exists in that opening, with the rest of the film taking place in a psychiatric ward.

Even though the depth that was there is gone, the style of Black Emanuelle 2 offers some entertainment. The edit is snappier and the use of constant rapid zooms is ridiculous to see. The music choices feel hokier as well, which goes completely at odds with the sex scenes that are present. It’s genuinely laughable and an outright downgrade from the first film. Thank goodness the awful bits just coalesce into “so bad it’s good” territory at times, even when the film makes attempts at comedy, such as exhibiting the sexual prowess of a character who is only there to be fucked by hanging a twelve pound anchor off of his penis.
