i was consistently conflicted with whether i liked it or not throughout the film. i feel like i watched two different films with the second segment being much longer than the first. at first its a story about a runaway who finds a woman that wings life and robs men who have the idea of sexual desires. then it turns into a film about the nature of good deed becoming a darker reality of oppression.
i really did like a lot of ideas in the film but how it executed itself became too pathetic rather than meaningful. i do wish that this film focused more on teri guzman’s characters, as she was this rebellious shit talking badass from what we got from her. instead we followed bonnie, the more you stick around her the more annoying it got. the adventures started off as this uplifting women inducing fear into men but then it started going with this “pets” narrative.
i really would’ve loved to see the teri guzman adventure especially when it’d probably be a gut-wrenching scam artist type of thing. the way there was no reliance on men besides the simple fact is to con. a man is never too nice to not pull knife or a gun on, would’ve been a nice rebellious backdrop.
not that the way the “pets” narrative was carried was horrible, it was sort of disappointing. many great ideas within that segment though. the egos of man being threatened by homosexuality and being lower ranked. the ideology of misogyny being seen as good and moral, told in an elegant and stupid way. how even despite how much we care for a human being, we can’t help but be selfish.
i think i mainly dislike candice rialson’s role, bonnie because of how awkward her role feels. she doesn’t support any meaning this film has and conveys, she’s used as this pawn that fits into the male gaze rather than be a rambunctious, empowering character. her obsession with dick is unfathomable and it becomes such a part of her personality that it’s sickening. too close to how a man would want it to be.
