More like, The Actors Sleep Walk.
The Amazon synopsis is "People in an old dark house on a stormy night are menaced by a killer ape." despite the fact that for the first twenty minutes they insist that the ape is "securely locked up in a cage" and with a chain no less. The plot centers less on the supposed "killer ape" and more on inheritance and mumbling plots to obtain such inheritance. Relatively straightforward, but somehow I anticipated some sort of weirder element than just "there's an ape locked in the basement".
