A documentary about documentaries essentially. Throughout the past couple of years documentaries have exploded through the rise of social media, and media conglomerates like Netflix and Amazon that try to make money off of these human stories. The documentary was never supposed to be journalism, and many people are treating this crime documentaries as journalism. I’ve had the pleasure of working on multiple documentaries in my life, and really the process of making these type of films is to continuously shoot and the story will evolve with the film. Most documentarians today aren’t trying to inform, they are telling a story to entertain people. The affect that this has on real people can be very damaging to their life. We have lost the narrative with documentaries, because of capitalism itself. There needs to be more transparency between the filmmaker, and the subject.
