I remember watching this with my nan a couple of years ago before she passed away and genuinely having detailed conversations about it… I do miss her
Now as I’m older and more mature to actually fully understand what is happening I have no words to the absolute horror people have to go through on the daily and I truly understand why this documentary was so controversial at the time of its release (shedding Liberia’s warlords in a bright light even after their war crimes but I mean the government did the same,so…).
Plus one thing I just want to mention is how nonchalant the soldiers speak about the murder/rape/cannibalism that goes on across Liberia especially in West Point (Liberian slum) and the manipulation from the UN workers on the Liberian public (which isn’t actually officially recognised but many Liberian prostitutes came forth and said they were beaten by the UN workers or have seen others (even children) be raped by the workers)..
All in all, the documentary is a very dark outlook into the world of Liberia but from a different perspective then the government.
