[Queue cheesy, food-for-though messaging]
For the homes we buildand the families we make.
While GULMOHAR isn’t exactly a breakthrough in the highly saturated, genre of dysfunctional Indian families unlike contempraries such as KAPOOR & SONS, DIL DHADKNE DO or even MONSOON WEDDING. This Hindi language film does flesh out some coherent moments of reflection (through viscerating monologues by Tagore), while mostly being melodramatic and annoyingly wrapping up all subplots within an impossible 4 day timeline. I just can’t bring myself to boot this film. Maybe it’s bisexual granny’s fault?
Sharmila Tagore, Simran, Manoj Bajpayee, Suraj Sharma and Amol Palekar were clear standouts of the cast. The remaining cast members were frankly unmemorable.
