Who knew Take That re-mixing “Greatest Day” for this movie would end up leading to separate movie winning Best Picture.
Yes I can hate a musical. Contrary to popular belief.
Real ones think that Take That’s discography is wasted on a movie as bad as this. I want big grand musical numbers of Greatest Day, Shine, The Flood, Rule The World, Patience. Why does this movie practically refuse to have its main characters sing. It’s mostly the ensemble. And a bad ensemble at that. What’s the point of a musical if we aren’t exploring the emotions of the main characters. It doesn’t help that the songs barely connect to what’s happening.
Except Back for Good which is the only legitimately good musical number in this song. The young versions of the leads singing with now versions.
It still went to the Emila Perez of musical filmmaking by not being able to end a musical number, it just abruptly stops.
It’s a shame cause Aisling Bea is probably my favourite comedian. She manages to elevate a lot of bad material. Except here.
Anyway go watch Better Man for a good Take That adjacent musical.
