my first experience with skatesploitation and i didn’t even know it was a genre that existed. i’m glad it exists though and i’m surprised with how much i loved this since my introduction to the genre is a low budget flick. but how jared masters carries every flawed aspect of filmmaking and turns it into eye-catching art is amazing.
the awkward dialogue and line delivery shouldn’t have worked as much as it did but it did. continuously funny, it’s like everyone is sarcastic but emotional at the same time. the mockumentary style blending in with the disconfigurated timeline similar to pulp fiction makes this a roller coaster of needed answers.
using skating as a personality in this film to bring characters together is beautiful subtle personification. the gang activity is like 1979’s the warriors and 2012’s spring breakers but tell a tale of middle class scam artists. and the soundtrack fucking hits, clashing the world of punk rock and future funk is insane. i live for those future funk tourist and skate montages. honestly, this is why i live for film and love film.
