I was watched the 3 and a half our extended cut and I was at the edge of my seat for the majority of it. It’s such a claustrophobic and intense movie. It could almost really be labeled as horror at some points. There are so many sequences that are so tense, you feel yourself holding your breath. The scenes in the strait of Gibraltar were so well done. My only criticism is the very end is kind of meh, I understand why they did it but it kind of made the ending feel a bit cheap but other than that, it was basically a perfect film. I will watch again.

There’s plenty of scenes here in which the claustrophobia is almost unbearable at times. Knowing you’re trapped in a metal cylinder and potentially your own coffin deep under water while you’re being shaken violently by nearby explosives.  Wolfgang Petersen and everyone involved did an incredible job with shooting this anti-war movie. That set design was genuinely outstanding. I’d be very curious on how it was filmed.

Personally I would not choose to store my (paper) maps next to the entrance hatch of the sub, considering the amount of water that regularly falls down from it
