This was both amazing and terrible. It’s a very interesting film though and is the most Francis Ford Coppola movie I have ever seen. It’s unique in a way that makes me respect it a great deal, especially when you consider the fact that Coppola tied in the plot point about Val Kilmer’s character’s daughter being killed in a speedboating accident since it was the same way his son died. Even if this movie is very messy and has some goofy looking effects, I have nothing but respect for Coppola and think that it is deeply moving that he took his grief and used it in an art form that he has mastered over the course of his illustrious career. I also loved the vibes of this film. It had vampires, blood, black and white cinematography during dream sequences, books about witchcraft, evil clock towers, and murder!!!! It was a mysterious movie that tied in a number of different genres in brilliant ways. Val Kilmer was fantastic, as was Elle Fanning and the music was eerily beautiful. Overall, this might not be that great of a movie, but it’s definitely worth a watch and is honestly not that bad.
