after neglecting to finish this series for weeks because I just can't endure the events from the the 31st episode up to the last, I finally got the courage to watch the final episode. Now, I feel nothing but pain.
Okay first of all, if you want a quick-paced detective show, this is the shit. They don't dragged out the cases and typical it only takes 1 to 2 episodes for it to be solved so you will never be bored of following the same case for over 4 episodes. The setting and the wardrobe are fire! I love the aesthetic of the series like all the characters look so good as well as the places. There are still imperfections but it was a good watch.
However.... Okay here comes my long ass nonsense essay...
Watching MRIAD was a bittersweet experience. It was sweet because it brought me another ship to cherish, to love so much, to adore, to look forward to, and to care about. The chemistry between Zhang Yunlong's character, Qiao Chusheng and Hu Yitian's Lu Yao was astronomical. Seeing them both on screen was an absolute delight because their character dynamic IS SO FUCKING PERFECT. In all honesty, they are the reason why I was drawn to this drama in the first place. I wasn't really into watching dramas but after stumbling upon a post about them, I find their interaction with eachother to be so subtle yet genuine. I was planning to watch the series expecting them to end up together or just witness how their relationship will progress later on. Unfortunately, this is where the bitter part comes, I was so so so wrong. The existence of the FL ruined everything and she irritates me so much whenever she's on screen. My hatred for her didn't stemmed from my desire for my ship to end up together but because her character isn't just well written. AND THE FACT THAT LU YAO MARRIED HER IN THE END DESPITE THEIR CONFLICTING PERSONALITIES AND OBVIOUS AWFUL DYNAMIC, THE SHOW STILL CHOOSE FOR THESE CHARACTERS TO BE STUCK WITH EACH OTHER. Looking at their relationship throughout, Lu yao and Youning's character fit into the sibling/best friends dynamic because despite their constant bickering they still support each other. Though this can fall into haters to lovers trope, IF U WILL WATCH THE ENTIRE THING, MISS GIRL ACTUALLY CAUSED MORE HARM THAN GOOD TO LU YAO WHICH MADE ME MORE FURIOUS THAT THE SHOW LITERALLY FORCED THEM TO BE TOGETHER HUHUHU I CAN'T. If you will compare LY and Youning's relationship to Lu Yao and Chusheng's relationship, the latter shows more tenderness and genuineness and its not just because they look good with each other but the way their characters look to each other, talk to each other, their body language, the flirting, and I could go on and on and on...BASICALLY THESE TWO ARE PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER BUT FOR SOME REASON THE SHOW MANEUVERED THEIR WAY OUT OF THE GAY PATH. I just can't, they're my everything and I swear their relationship is just so fucking beautiful. I just can't accept the ending... huhuhuhu im crying rn. I will wait and hope that there will be a second season that will give us more space for Lu Yao and Qiao Chusheng's relationship to grow deeper and stronger.
Yeah, I know that in this review I talked more about my fav CP rather than the technicalities and story of the series but I really just want to vent my feelings out huhuhu I don't really have someone irl to share how passionate I am about Chuyao so I just wrote this whole shit in here. Anyway, all in all, its worth to watch I recommend it :'D
