Great Documentary-Series from the Team that made ,,Walking with Dinosaurs“, if not as intriguing as the predecessor.
Still, i think the ,,walking with“ Shows are some/if not the best Documentaries in terms of depicting prehistoric life. While most documentaries of that Subject are relying heavily on facts/telling how the animals survived, the ,,walking with“-Series just shows it in the format of an normal animal-documentary including VoiceOver explaining what happens.
It’s very immersive in the way it’s filmed: on location, with awesome animatronics and some (for the time) outstanding CGI. For example there was a scene were 2 Saber Tooth fought and it was filmed kinda shakily, like if the Camera-Team tried not to interfere with them. Those small things make it seem so much more authentic. It’s literally the Phrase ,,show, don‘t tell“ but in documentary form.
The reason why i give this Show a lower Rating then Walking with Dinosaurs simply comes down to preference of Subject and nostalgia.
While i think Walking with Dinosaurs is close of being a Masterpiece, this one was ,,just great“. I felt a small decline of quality in the later Episodes, but was yet entertained all the way throughout and learned some new things :)
