soil is my #1 favorite manga of all time, to me it's a whole experience. everything about it just speaks to me. it's a solid body of work who knows exactly what it is and what's it's trying to tell.
this show was a faithful adaptation that with a seemingly limited budget and production value, puts so much respect to what it's adapting from. from the production set, the well casted characters, the details they don't forget to pick up, but unfortunately up until the ending they just kind of give up and just goes out of nowhere. while all the "wtf?" moments in the manga is answered, this show doesn't really answer the questions it lets out. the trippy absurdities was perfectly conveyed with such a stylish storytelling but apart from that it's not the right show to put on when you're looking for your questions to be answered.
the ominous, threatening underlying atmosphere of the manga—which i believe is one of the story's strongest suit, apart of the absurdities—is also absent from the show. but i respect where it's coming from, and i have to admit that while i enjoy reading manga with uncomfortable vibes like Soil, when it comes to live actions, i don't enjoy it as much, so i really like the lighter vibe they bring in the show. the ending really ruined it for me though as a big fan of the manga, had they make a better ending (that doesn't have to be accurate to the manga because i know stories like Soil is everything but easy to adapt) it would be rewatchable.
