Lori Martin portrays Velvet Brown who has always dreamed of owning a jumping horse. When she finally acquires one it has to be destroyed because of its wild nature.

Velvet Brown saves her horse, King, from an attack by a pitchfork-wielding young hoodlum.

Herbert Brown's ego is deflated when Martha accepts a food company’s offer to produce her prize-winning jams and jellies.

Edwina forgot to bring a reference book so her boyfriend Teddy could study for an exam. Now there's only one place to get the information -- from Sally Grimes, Edwina’s rival for Teddy’s affections.

A series of crises occur at the Brown house as a result of a nearby forest fire.

Guest Edgar Buchanan portrays Grandpa Harwell, who decides to send King, and Velvet to England for the Grand National Steeplechase.

Velvet learns that "Growing Up" involves more than being accepted by an older group. She's hurt when Edwina and her friends unexpectedly include her in their plans and then, just as suddenly, become indifferent to her.

Velvet changes the name of The Pie to King. Velvet starts breaking King to the saddle. Velvet goes to Mi for help. Then Velvet changes the name to Blaze King. Mi helps Velvet and Velvet's Dad is not happy. Mi is not doing his job on the farm. Mi tells Herbert to send King to a trainer. The trainer is cruel. King is beaten by the trainer. Velvet puts her coat on King and he accepts it.
