omg if they ever decide to become a throuple then genuinely move over because i’m joining immediately, these people are ridiculously attractive together. like every scene between them had me giggling and staring at the screen like an idiot
but what surprised me more is that beneath all the tension and pretty styling, the drama actually understands a core part of punk culture that a lot of shows reduce into aesthetics. punk has always been rooted in rebellion, emotional messiness, rejection of conformity, and finding people who exist outside the neat little boxes society wants you to stay in. and i think the drama captures that spirit pretty well, even if it doesn’t always fully commit to exploring it deeper. it’s less “punk as politics” and more “punk as emotional escape,” which honestly still worked for me
genuinely though, this was such a sensual drama without needing to constantly rely on explicit scenes to sell chemistry. there’s this lingering tension in the glances, the way characters occupy space around each other. even something as simple as that finger scene somehow felt more intimate than most fully explicit scenes in other bls and visually, the production quality was beautiful but expected
the fashion especially stood out because it actually felt connected to personality instead of just being random edgy styling thrown together for vibes. i also appreciate that the design process wasn’t dragged out for episodes the way fashion-centered dramas sometimes do. it kept things moving while still making the creative world feel believable.
that being said, i really wish the relationship writing was stronger near the end because chiaki and enaga honestly had such magnetic buildup that it accidentally made the ae relationship feel less emotionally satisfying in comparison. every interaction between chiaki and enaga had weight and tension to it, while chiaki and ae sometimes felt like the show telling me they were important instead of fully making me feel it. i needed more scenes that justified why ae specifically mattered to chiaki beyond attraction and emotional chaos.
and the ending, omg everything wrapped up way too quickly, after taking its time building atmosphere and tension, the final stretch suddenly rushes through emotional resolutions like it’s trying to catch a train. i also think chiaki’s acting occasionally lacked emotional variation in certain scenes, especially during moments that needed stronger internal conflict
but even with those flaws, i can’t deny how refreshing this felt as a bl. it actually tried to bring in themes of identity, self-destruction, freedom, and reinvention instead of just using romance as the entire point. i’m still conflicted about the cigarettes and alcohol thing with ae introducing chiaki to that world because i get what the show was trying to say — that ae represents this dangerous, self-destructive freedom that fascinates chiaki — but it needed a stronger emotional payoff for it to fully land instead of feeling like aesthetic symbolism
still… i had a really good time with this !!!! messy, stylish, frustrating, hot people making terrible emotional decisions. exactly my thing
