"And this is a black hole. BYE" 🤣
Scream of the Shalka, the 40th anniversary special and the planned revival of Doctor Who, prior to the commission of the 2005 live action reboot. I've had the DVD of this sitting on my shelf for a good while now, and I never got around to it. While cleaning around, I came across it again and thought, after Richard E. Grant's cameo in "
Rogue", it's only courteous I inform myself of this era and get up to speed 😂
For what it is, I quite enjoyed it. As with any new doctor, it took me a minute to get into this one, especially as his character is quite different from everything which has come before. Regardless of his differences, I quite liked him. Made me laugh on a number of occasions. I don't think I'd want to travel with him, but he's a good alternative version of the character, which I can appreciate.
It surprised me hearing Derek Jacobi as the Master since, of course, he also plays the War Master in the reboot and the
Big Finish series. I thought he was quite good, but I'd expect nothing less from him 😅
Overall, despite the story, which I can't particularly say I was fond of, I enjoyed the experience. Another nugget of Doctor Who lore for my mind palace. Shame he's never made a live action appearance in a multi-doctor story or something other than his cameo in Rogue. I'd find it fascinating to see, for example, the Shalka doctor interact with the 13th doctor. On a final note, I quite liked the opening theme, which I thought was cool 😅
