Sinners
Every time I walk into theater 13 at Lincoln Square ahead of an IMAX 70MM showing, I feel truly lucky and as if I belong to a special exclusive club of people. What Ryan Coogler provided to us as viewers is truly magic. The smooth transitions to full aspect ratio were some of the most incredible moments I've had at a theater. I was truly in awe.
Aside from the wow factor of 70MM IMAX, Sinners was honestly pretty great. Michael B. Jordan is in a league of his own. The ability to play two completely unique characters who you become equally as invested in is special and the presence of his characters is felt almost immediately and carries throughout the duration of the movie. The only reason would not go for 5 stars here is that I am not a fan of vampire movies. I tend to think they are kind of lame. With that in mind, this story and movie does it really well and draws some interesting comparisons to the mobility of a vampires to Jim Crow era America. There's limited places and times of day you can be out and seen, who you can interact with, etc. Not sure if that is what Coogler was going for but I thought it was a neat comparison.
