Superman

We interrupt this broadcast for an important breaking news report🗣️🗣️
Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013) found dead in a DITCH.
**I kid you not, since the day this film was announced, I became a different* human being. All my friends can confirm I haven’t shut up about this since day one. I mean — David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult? Literally engineered in a lab for me. I started diving into DC just a few months before the announcement, and this felt like the universe whispering, “This is yours.” I hyped this movie up so* hard that I was genuinely nervous the night before that I wouldn’t enjoy it.
False alarm. All clear. I am happy to report my stupid nerd ass had an amazing time. This film was incredible. With this one, I can confidently say: we are back. James Gunn jumped the Marvel ship, and the whole comic-to-cinema balance shifted. Thank god he did, because this is one of my favourite superhero movies ever.
(メ` ロ ´) “What the hey dude!!” ⋆🐾°
The pacing? Immaculate. Not once did I check the time or feel like something was dragging. Every scene felt intentional, balanced, and just fun as hell. The only thing I didn’t love—brace for impact—was the flying. I know. I KNOW. I actually preferred the flying scenes in Man of Steel (I’m not proud of saying it either). They just felt a bit floaty and awkward early on. That said, they noticeably improved by the final act. Also, the “being human” monologue was juuust a bit too corny for me. A little much. Oh, and that thing with Conner Kent (if that was even him??) felt weird and half-baked. That’s it.
Now. The casting. Are you kidding me. Drop dead. I was found flat on the floor, face-down. Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor? ACTING. DELIVERING. Someone give this man a back massage because he CARRIED the entire film. He brought this chaotic, unhinged but deeply intelligent energy to Lex that felt fresh but still respectful of past versions. I’m manifesting him an Oscar in the future.
(︶︹︺) “I’m not messing around — I’m doing important stuff.”
And David Corenswet. My god. The last time I physically grabbed my seat and bit my knuckles during a performance was Aaron Taylor-Johnson in The Fall Guy. I’ve got some really inappropriate stuff to say, but I know my mom will probably read this — so I better keep quiet. David understood the assignment. His Clark Kent feels warm, sincere, dorky-but-charming, and his Superman carries this sense of weight and conflict without losing the idealism. The squirrel scene made me giggle so hard.
(Also. The glasses. Stay. On. We will not debate this. 😐☝️👓)
Rachel Brosnahan as Lois? Fantastic. She’s sharp and funny and grounded, and she and Corenswet have real chemistry. *(Anyone saying otherwise must’ve seen a different film.) *And Skyler Gisondo? I want to be best friends with his Jimmy Olsen. I loved the three of them together—it gave the Daily Planet a pulse again.
Cinematography-wise, this looked absolutely stunning. The colours were more saturated than the gray-blasted DC we’re used to, and the framing made Superman feel mythic without detaching him from humanity. There were moments that genuinely felt like comic book panels come to life—some swooping city shots, golden light on the cape, carefully composed close-ups that sang.
Overall? This is the Superman we needed. A film that knows how to have fun, that embraces sincerity instead of mocking it, that respects the mythos without drowning in it. It’s bold, it’s heartfelt, and it’s a real love letter to what Superman should be. Consider me seated for every DCU entry that follows—especially if they bring this much heart and style.
