Being a tried and true romantic...it's a blessing and a curse. I'll never not be in love with how natural this feels from the improvised dialogue and handheld camera and on-location shooting. It paints with a broad brush with just enough specific detail, and manages to capture that desperate feeling of irrational longing that's more powerful than any other. Being able to tap into that is overwhelming and awful, but I can't imagine the alternative of being able to rationalize something meant to be eternal and only felt. What does that leave you with beyond cordiality and convenience? Not sure life would be worth living if that was the case.
Amazing how different the first fifteen minutes feel from the last despite everything in between feeling like variations on the same beats. Golden hour by the Santa Monica Pier versus cold and awkward formalities and small talk around a kitchen island. To be that impressionistic but to thoroughly get a feeling across...Sundance used to reward subtle bravery like that. Will always feel like more than a movie to me.
