Nowhere

Yeah, still a masterpiece.
I love how this film manages to be both an overstimulation of senses filled with absolutely wild stuff from the first to last frame, complete with some of the best set-design I’ve ever seen and an incredibly tight soundtrack, but also a sincere examination of love, lust and relationships. It takes on these themes from so many different angles in this world where nobody replies to ‘I love you’ with ‘I love you too’. And then it ends in a Kafka-esque Gregor Samsa nightmare.
Araki infuses his funny and crazy dialogues with so much sincerity and the same is true for his characters and the situations they find themselves in.
Also, while I’m interested in the new 4k restoration, I’m perfectly happy to watch this on a slightly rough-looking DVD. I feel like that’s the way the film needs to be seen.
