The Penguin
EPISODE 8 (FINALE):
damn. bro got the city, got the huzz, got the fortune. you gotta give it to bro🤷🏾♂️. respect🤝🏾
also big props to the kid actor for Oz. emulated Colin Farrell's performance perfectly. really did feel like a young Oz, which so many films/shows fail at.
spoilers:
yeah honestly like..... I still love Oz. i mean the episode is obviously ramping up his villainy and trying to make us hate him but i just didn't feel it, which i think is due to a couple things.
the big thing is Vic. i just like...don't really care for him. i mean the show gave him an episode at the start, and then a little more with his girl the following episode, and then just sorta forgot about him. i mean he basically just becomes Oz's right hand man who appears every now and then in the show. pretty sure there's a whole ass episode that he isn't even in (i think), or at least he had about 5 seconds screentime. i just wasn't very invested in him, which is the show's own fault imo🤷🏾♂️. there's barely any development with his emotions and feelings and look inside him beyond "i want to make Oz proud". he's more so just an accessory for the writing of Oz and letting the audience know what kind of guy Oz is with their relationship. which is fine, the show revolves around Oz, but killing Vic at the end there just means that i more so understand why Oz did it than care too much about Vic.
then there's Sofia. honestly i felt a little more bad about her situation than i did for Vic. show really did trick me into thinking she'd die. to be back at Arkham Asylum after everything does make me feel pity, which the show did well with her development by giving her a whole episode to herself. BUT, honestly, again, i felt more that Oz just made an absolute power play and i just became shook with how smart he played that. either way she's gonna come back which i look forward to. excited at the Selina hints.
along with all this, there is the fact that Colin Farrell just plays this role so fucking charismatically. i mean the guy is just charming as fuck. yeah i still love Oz. he's a dick, he's a complete dick, he didn't even carry out his mother's final wish, who he supposedly has so much love her, because his selfishness is above all else, but i still love him. I loved every choice he made throughout this episode, and every time he fought back i was cheering.
also just this episode was kinda funny lol. Sofia practically running a therapy session for the Cobb family, and the fucking stripper ting roleplaying as his mum??😭😭
oh great score too, Mick Giacchino proves his blood.
great ep.
