James Cameron

Both Terminator films are pretty much equal in terms of quality to me with their own distinct yet similar flaws. Titanic would be my least rewatchable film on here, while The Way of Water is functionally a 4K OLED television demo reel, or an unskippable video game cut scene but I can’t knock on it too much. Cameron used to be a much better writer than he gets credit for, despite the annoying narration and the cliché lines in the Terminator films he co-wrote - it’s backed up by just the right amount of camp and comedy that it genuinely works. Also, there’s a certain sterility that’s present in his post-Avatar filmography (as a producer and director) that his earlier films manage to avoid. Cameron, I now consider, even more of a ‘technician’, which isn’t as solely disparaging or derogatory as it seems at first glance.
